SPECIAL NOTE: Coat Drive Extension Through January 9, 2009
New York Cares will extend this year's Coat Drive through January 9, 2009 at three locations to meet increased coat requests from nonprofit agencies this year. Donations are down due to economic conditions, so we encourage everyone to give a coat if they can.
New Yorkers may donate coats at the following public locations until January 9, 2009.
- New York Penn Station, Long Island Railroad (LIRR) level, 34th Street entrance corridor. Weekdays from 7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
- Grand Central Terminal (Graybar Passage). Weekdays from 7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
- The Pond At Bryant Park, 42nd Street and 6th Avenue. Anytime during rink hours.
Groups and individuals who have collected coats can deliver them to the New York Cares Coat Drive warehouse (250 Hudson Street, 6th Floor) until January 16, 2009.
Did you know that 90% of homeless adults need a new, warm coat each
winter because they have no place to keep one over the summer months? But it's not just homeless people who need our help; thousands
of New Yorkers are forced to make a choice between buying a winter
coat and putting food on the table, or meeting other basic survival needs.
Each December, New York Cares collects nearly 80,000 gently
used winter coats and distributes them to thousands of men, women,
and children who would otherwise go without.
How You Can Help
 |
Donate a coat - See our list of drop-off locations. |
 |
Make a financial donation - Providing nearly 80,000 coats each winter, as well as our year-round projects, requires an enormous amount of resources. Your donation will help us ensure that every New Yorker who needs a warm coat this year has one. |
