Alex Cromarty

Yet another drum packed DVD from Hudson music, and what a cracker it is!

Six hours of footage from some of to days biggest and most respected drummers plus bonus footage, a photo gallery, web links and more!

I know, it sounds too good to be true but it is! Be warned once you press play you will be glued to you TV for the whole duration, I found myself wide awake ready to make some music at 4:00am on a Thursday morning!

The playing just keeps on getting better!

On Saturday you will see:

Mike Orris – the winner of ‘Undiscovered Drummer’ comp under 18’s. This young man has some lovely chops up his sleeve.

The Hip Pickles – 3 crazy Americans whose love of rhythm and movement has turned into a highly visual performance. Quite spectacular!

Nathaniel Townsley – No messing, straight into the groove. He plays with authority and feels every note.

Matt Wilson – This guy can swing and swing he does. Matt performs a few jazz tunes with his band, but for me the highlight of his set has to be the ‘Salute to Big Bands’ played on the snare alone.

Steve Smith – What can I say that you don’t already know? A bit of education then out comes Vital Info. Steve is a master technician and historian of the kit.

Mike Portnoy – Believe it or not but he begins on a four piece kit, he is of course playing with Yellow Matter Custard. Man, that isn’t the Portnoy I know! But don’t worry the monster kit comes out, and it’s even bigger than ever before, the man needs two seats to play the whole kit!

Sunday:

Louis Santiago – Louis is the winner of the over 18 heat of ‘Undiscovered Drummer’, he’s 26 and from New York. What a player! Amazing! Watch for the one handed fill, it made me scream!

The Drumbassadors – Two crazy Dutch players who have taken stick tricks to the limit! They double drum and wow the crowd.

Nick D’Virgilio – Nick plays and even sings along to a few ‘Spocks Beard’ tunes as well as giving us a cheeky little solo.

Antonio Sanchez – Oh my! This fella takes clave playing to the edge and then even further! Odd times, some amazing independence and a Mexican accent.

Airto Moreira – Not only a world renowned percussion player but a gifted drummer and vocalist. His final piece is performed on voice and tambourine alone and receives a standing ovation.

Shawn Pelton – What a groove this man has. It really is the perfect way to end the DVD and the show. A great band playing some cool tunes with an amazing drummer!

The production is top class; it’s been well filmed and edited, so there’s nothing you don’t want to see! The collection of drummers will satisfy any rhythm freak, no matter their taste, style or ability. Watch the special features to see The Drumbassators & Steve Smith battles it out for the best trick, and they’ve even thrown in some of Dream theatres sound check! Wo Ho!!

It really is fantastic to watch and it gives you plenty of ideas to get practicing.

This DVD is a must, you simply need to see it, forget the cost it’s worth every penny!
