TOMMY IGOE Tommy Igoe has been at the forefront of drumset performance and education for the last 20 years. He started playing at the age of two and won every local and regional competition during his school years. While studying drumset in high school, he also marched in the famed early 1980’s Bayonne Bridgemen drum corps calling it “… still to this day, one of the most intense musical experiences of my life.” At the age of 18, he embarked on his first global tour with the Glenn Miller Orchestra which then led into a non-stop stream of gigs; playing and recording with Lauryn Hill, New York Voices, Dave Grusin, Stanley Jordan and Blood Sweat & Tears, countless commercials, TV and film scores and a permanent member of folk-rock legend Art Garfunkel’s band for 9 years. As a solo artist, his debut CD New Ground was awarded numerous 5 star reviews and had the honor of being placed on several artist compilation discs from Vic Firth and Drum Workshop. Tommy has also focused his efforts on education releasing two globally successful drum DVD’s: “Getting Started on Drums” and “Groove Essentials”, the first comprehensive groove encyclopedia of its kind. The DVD, together with the original groove poster and play-along book, form a ground breaking educational triology that has been a global bestseller. He also teaches privately in his personal studio in the New York/New Jersey area. Currently, Tommy is the musical director of the Birdland Big Band, playing every Friday night at the world renowned Birdland jazz club in New York City, and he is also the principal drummer and associate conductor for the “The Lion King on Broadway”, where he also composed the drumset book.
